At the Afro-Caribbean Food Bank, we are committed to supporting newcomers and refugees in their journey to rebuild their lives in Canada. Many of the families we serve have come from situations of hardship, displacement, and insecurity. Through our Sponsorship & Settlement Support Program, we work alongside community partners and sponsors to ensure newcomers are welcomed with dignity, compassion, and the tools they need to thrive.

What We Do

🔹 Private Sponsorship Support: We assist Canadian families and community members who wish to sponsor relatives or friends facing persecution and displacement outside their home countries.
🔹 Settlement Guidance: From the moment newcomers arrive, we provide culturally sensitive support to help them access services, navigate Canadian systems, and integrate smoothly.
🔹 Language & Integration: We prioritize English language learning so newcomers can access employment, education, and everyday services. Enrolling in certified English classes is often the first step to building a strong foundation in their new home.
🔹 Employment Pathways: While newcomers are legally entitled to work upon arrival, we emphasize balancing part-time employment with language learning, so they can transition to more meaningful and sustainable jobs.
🔹 Community Care: We walk with families throughout their settlement journey—ensuring they feel supported, connected, and empowered within the Afro-Caribbean and wider Canadian community.
