Culturally Appropriate Food Distribution
At the Afro-Caribbean Food Bank (ACF), we recognize the
importance of providing food that reflects the cultural traditions and
preferences of the communities we serve.
Our Culturally Appropriate Food Distribution program ensures that families have access to essential ingredients and staples commonly used in Afro-Caribbean and Indigenous diets, such as White Garris, Yam Flour, Red Beans, Palm Oil, Groundnut, and Chili Pepper.
By offering culturally relevant food items, we not only address food insecurity but also promote dignity, cultural identity, and a sense of belonging for newcomers, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) in Edmonton and surrounding areas.

Newcomer Support Services
Our Newcomer Support Services at the Afro-Caribbean Food
Bank (ACF) are designed to assist immigrants and refugees as they settle into life in Edmonton. We provide culturally appropriate food hampers to help newcomers access familiar and nourishing foods, easing their transition into a new environment.
We also offer resources and guidance on local services, housing, and employment opportunities. Through our support network, we aim to empower newcomers, promote community integration, and ensure that no family faces food insecurity as they adjust to their new home.
Community Meals and Events
At ACF Food Bank, we believe in the power of coming together to share a meal and build connections. As part of our commitment to supporting Afro-Caribbean and Indigenous communities, we host community meals every Thursday at 3 PM in downtown Edmonton and the surrounding areas. These gatherings are an opportunity for everyone to experience the rich heritage of Afro-Caribbean and Indigenous cuisine while fostering a sense of unity and belonging.

Nutritional Education and Workshops
We are dedicated to promoting health and wellness within the community. We provide workshops on healthy eating, meal preparation, and nutrition, with a special focus on traditional Afro-Caribbean foods. These sessions aim to empower individuals with the knowledge to make nutritious choices that honor cultural traditions, ensuring that everyone has the tools to create balanced and wholesome meals.
Food Security Advocacy
We are committed to advocating for equitable access to nutritious food for all. We partner with local organizations to champion better food security programs that support marginalized communities, including BIPOC and low-income families. Our goal is to create lasting change by raising awareness and driving initiatives that address food insecurity, ensuring that everyone has access to healthy and culturally appropriate foods.

Volunteer and Employment Opportunities
At ACF Food Bank, we believe in the power of community involvement. We offer a variety of volunteer programs and create employment opportunities within our organization to engage community members and provide valuable work experience. Whether you’re looking to give back, develop new skills, or gain hands-on experience in a supportive environment, there’s a place for you at ACF Food Bank. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those we serve.
Emergency Food Assistance
Understand that unexpected challenges can lead to food insecurity. That’s why we provide emergency food hampers for individuals and families in crisis, ensuring they have access to essential nourishment when they need it most. Our goal is to offer immediate support to those facing difficult times, helping to relieve the burden of hunger and bring comfort to our community

Partnerships with Local Farms and Suppliers
We are proud to collaborate with local farms and suppliers to source fresh produce that supports both our community and local businesses. By prioritizing locally grown foods, we not only provide high-quality ingredients for our food programs but also strengthen the local economy and foster sustainable partnerships. Together, we are committed to nourishing our community with the best that Edmonton has to offer.
Outreach and Delivery Services
We strive to make our support as accessible as possible through our Outreach and Delivery Services. We deliver food hampers and essential supplies directly to individuals and families who are unable to visit our food bank locations. Our outreach efforts extend into Edmonton’s most vulnerable communities, ensuring that everyone has access to the nutritious, culturally appropriate foods they need, regardless of their circumstances.

Community Garden Programs
At ACF Food Bank, we believe in the power of growing food together. Our Community Garden Programs are designed to engage individuals and families in cultivating their own fresh produce. These gardens not only provide access to nutritious fruits and vegetables but also serve as a space for learning, connection, and cultural exchange. By empowering community members to grow their own food, we promote sustainability and a deeper connection to the land and our shared heritage.
Community Partnerships
We are proud to collaborate with local charities, shelters, and outreach programs to deliver food to the individuals and families who need it most.
Through these partnerships, we ensure that vulnerable populations have access to culturally appropriate and nourishing food, fostering a stronger, more supportive community.
